Welcome Steven Winkelman!

The CRUISElab would like to welcome Steven Winkelman to the team! Steven is a research assistant with the lab through the University of Toronto’s work study program. He is currently pursuing his MPH in Health Promotion at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, with a focus on health access and equity for queer populations. His research interests include utilizing salutogenic community development tools to empower marginalized groups to improve their social, mental, and physical health. His interest in this field developed during his time as a Community HIV Outreach Volunteer with the Peace Corps in South Africa.

Outside of school, Steven is busy learning how to navigate the city of Toronto safely by bike. He is also involved in community theatre, and an avid dog-lover. He is hoping to join the Queer Caucus at the University of Toronto to engage in peer mentorship with his fellow LGBTQ2s+ colleagues. He is excited about this opportunity to work with the CRUISELab to work with queer communities in a Canadian context!
